Sweat Freely

A few years back there was some chatter as to the safety of antiperspirants. According to WebMD, it's all hooey, but I was sufficiently terrorized to cast away my beloved Dove Go Fresh.

What resulted was certainly an experience as I managed to whittle down, product by product, which deodorants actually worked.

(Note: Antiperspirants have ingredients that prevent sweating, whereas deodorants merely attempt to mask the smell of sweat.)

For those who worry about sweating more without antiperspirants, here's my theory: It has been recently concluded that overuse of acid-suppressing medication (like Prevacid and Nexium) actually causes the body to produce more acid to compensate. Perhaps we can use the data here as well; maybe antiperspirants cause one to sweat more. Just a thought; although a google search shows that other people have made the same conclusion. Mere speculation, that's all.

OK, back to the reviews. One thing I learned: Only roll-on works. Deodorant sprays and sticks are absolutely useless.

The best-selling deodorant on Vitacost (as well as the top-rated) is Alvera All-Natural Roll-On Deodorant Aloe and Almonds. The scent smells powdery-pleasant; there's actually a limit on Vitacost as to how many can be bought at one time, it's so popular. 4.7/5 stars from 700 reviews; that's got to be confirmation of something
There is also Alvera Aloe Herbal All-Natural Roll-On Deodorant which I bought once by accident. I would say the scent is more for the dudes; it smelled too manly-cologne for my taste, so I never used it.

As I may have mentioned beforehand, I like a little variety. So I tried Crystal Essence Mineral Deodorant Roll-On Pomegranate, which has a more unisex vibe, and worked really well.

I am obsessed with citrus scents, so I got Tom's of Maine Natural Confidence Deodorant Citrus Zest. The orangey-scent dissipates rather quickly, but it does a good job in neutralizing odor.

I am very happy that roll-on is permitted on Shabbos, as aerosol antiperspirants would make me sneeze for a solid hour after applying.

While I have had only joy with roll-ons, of anyone has had success with a spray or stick, kindly fill me in. And now, it would seem, I'm trendy; her fling with natural deodorant was featured on Stylelist.

What's your experience been with feeling sweaty because you're only using deoderant? Are you not finding it very unpleasant and uncomfortable?

I don't find myself particularly fashvitzed, no. I hate feeling sweaty in general, yet I am not uncomfortable.
